WhatsUp Gold Software Overview 

  • What Has Changed From Earlier Versions? – We cover previous versions of WhatsUp Professional and WhatsUp Gold
  • Typical Uses of WhatsUp Gold – How is WhatsUp Gold being used in other IT environments? 
  • Course Goals – We will cover the goals for the course
  • Student Goals – We will also discuss the attendee goals as well
  • WhatsUp Terms and Methods - We discuss the operation of WhatsUp on a basic level
  • Terminology – Overview of the terminology used in WhatsUp and network monitoring
  • Networking Protocols – Overview of the methods of computer communications, as they apply to WhatsUp Gold 
     

Module 1: Planning

  • System requirements – What are the Ipswitch recommended system requirements?
  • System recommendations – The Intelek recommendations for a smooth install.
  • Installation – A quick overview of the application install.
  • Planning – Planning steps to insure a smooth install. Including; Accessibility, Device Inventory, Custom Devices, Credentials Manager, Contact Information/Methods
  • Application Configuration – We will discuss the main application configuration here.
  • Program Menu Items – The other things that are included when you install WhatsUp Gold.

Module 2: Discovery

  • WhatsUp Gold Discovery Wizard – Same as the New Install Wizard, allows for bulk discovery.
  • Add New Devices, Draging and droping Custom Device, plus an indepth run thru Recurring discovery with Active Discovery (Set up regular scans of your network for new devices and monitors)

Module 3: Mapping/Devices

  • WhatsUp Gold Views; Groups, Dynamic Groups, Device View, Map View and the Map Drawing/Layout Tools
  • Dependencies, Acknowledgement mode and what it all means
  • Device Properties in detail

Module 4: Monitors

  • Active Monitors, Including; SNMP In Depth, WhatsUp Scripting Overview, and WMI In depth
  • Passive Monitors
  • Performance Monitors

Module 5: Actions

  • We will cover % Variables and their usage, Actions, Action Policies and Recurring Actions 

Module 6: Reports

  • Full Reports. We will cover: Device, Group, System, and Top 10 reports in depth.
  • Split Second Graphs
  • Workspaces, including the Home and Device workspace
  • Recurring Reports

Module 7: Web Interface

  • Overview of the interface, and how it is used.
  • Configuration of the web centric aspects of WhastUp Gold
  • Tools. We will examine and demonstrate the usage of the many tools included in the new web interface

Module 8: Maintenance & Performance

  • Maintenance, including; Overview, Database and Backup & Restore
  • Performance tuning, including the Layer Cake method

Module 9: Ipswitch Dashboard

  • Overview of what it is, and how it works
  • Playlist manager configuration
